Europe's fastest selling speed camera locator now costs less than a speeding fine

TOAD UK Ltd, the company behind the UK's best selling speed camera locator Inforad, has dropped the price to less than the minimum speeding fine. The world's smallest speed camera locator will cost just £59.99 from 1st October.
Inforad has always promoted safer driving through speed camera alerts, as they are located at accident blackspots. With its lowest ever price, Inforad technology and safety features is now accessible to even more drivers.
The latest version of Inforad is GPS based and therefore remains legal under the Road Safety Act 2006.
Sales last year rose dramatically in the run up to Christmas, suggesting that many were bought as Christmas presents for loved ones.
Research conducted by TOAD has shown that safety camera locators such as Inforad make for better drivers, as users are more aware of speed limits and accident blackspots. The survey found that 94% of GPS speed camera locator users become more aware of their speed, 93% are more aware of speed limits and 89% feel that they drive more safely.

Toad Sees Delayed Increase In Demand For Hands Free Phone Kits

Toad, the UK's leading independent installer of hands-free phone kits for the fleet industry, has seen a marked increase in demand for new installations in recent weeks. Demand has risen 20% in the weeks since 27th February when the new, harsher penalties for using a hand held mobile phone whilst driving came into force.
Andrew Sarssam, Toad's Director of Sales, believes that confusion and complacency are behind the last minute surge in demand. He commented: "When the use of hand-held mobile phones in cars was banned over three years ago, the fleet industry was very quick to act and install hands-free kits. We saw a ten-fold increase in demand in the months leading up to the law change. However, this time around fleets have been slower to respond. Although many had already fitted kits, the last minute rush suggests that some were caught off-guard."
Research by the Press Association has found that 240 drivers a day are being fined £60 and having their licenses endorsed with three points for using hand-held phones whilst driving.

Toad Launches New Hi-Tech Caravan Alarm

Toad's industry-leading caravan alarm range has just been re-launched with exciting new interactive features. Now ‘Vansafe' will send owners a text message to alert them to unauthorised movement of the caravan, or any other problems, such as an alarm being activated or the caravan Leisure battery running low. This upgrade to the range is particularly useful for owners who keep their caravans at a separate or remote location where sound-only alarms are of limited value.
Vansafe retails at £225 or £424 with the interactive feature, including fitting. Customers who want to upgrade their existing Vansafe alarm with Text-Alert can do so for £199 including fitting.
The Toad caravan alarm range was the first of its type to use PIR detectors and sensors to prevent both theft of and from vulnerable caravans. Now Toad engineers have added the very latest in mobile phone technology to allow owners to communicate with their caravan remotely. The Text-Alert feature will not only send out immediate messages when there is a problem, it also has the ability to receive messages to sound the alarm, for example.

Toad Improves On Perfection

Toad's industry leading Ai606 alarm can now alert owners via text message if their vehicle is being stolen or broken into.
The Ai606 is a Thatcham Category 1 alarm with many features as standard, but now it is available with Text-Alert.
In the event of a car being tampered with, the Ai606 Interactive automatically sends a text message to the owner's mobile phone. Using either one of three available accessories, owners can also send messages back to the vehicle to lock or unlock the doors, to immobilise the vehicle or to sound the alarm.

Toad In Sat Nav Anti-Fraud Initiative

TOAD, the insurance replacement specialist, is piloting a new 'end to end' claims validation service to combat an increasing amount of fraud and exaggeration with regard to portable satellite navigation claims.
The service, which operates from Toad's newly refurbished 100 seat claims centre in Surrey, handles portable navigation claims from notification through to settlement. As a claim passes quickly through the validation checks, an innovative and comprehensive methodology references all the claim data, policy holder description, documentary evidence, compatibility, accessories, mapping, software and licensing checks to ensure the claim is fair and represents the item reported as lost, damaged or stolen.
As part of this service, Toad is developing a database of navigation mapping licenses and serial numbers, to help identify secondary claims and where possible to repatriate stolen equipment.

Met Police Turn To 21st Century For Clarity Of Images

The Metropolitan Police and the BBC have recently turned to 21st Century for assistance with a number of high profile crimes, as images from the company's CCTV systems installed on London buses are of such high quality. Arriva London has installed 21st Century's ProGuard digital recorder, which combines high quality digital images with WiFi technology for easy management.
Arriva London fitted the 21st Century CCTV system throughout its fleet in order to make travelling by bus safer and more convenient for customers and employees. Because of the quality of the images and the WiFi technology enabling the automatic download of images, Arriva only requires a team of 10 staff to monitor the entire on bus CCTV operation.

Toad Expresses Concern Over In-Car Mobile Phone Confusion

Toad (UK) Limited, the UK's leading independent installer of hands-free phone kits, has expressed concern over the continuing confusion over the law relating to the use of mobile phones in cars.
The law changed on 1st December 2003, however, Toad claims that continuing confusion over the law has led to an increase in the number of drivers flouting the rules. The Road Safety Bill, which has yet to become law, may seek to address this problem and even increase the penalties. However, the Bill has already seen several delays, and the risks posed by drivers flouting the current law remain a major problem.
Andrew Sarssam, Director of Sales at Toad commented, "There was a lot of confusion at the time the initial legislation was introduced. Three years on and the confusion continues, and drivers have become complacent, slipping back into bad habits. The Government has promised to update the law with phase two of the legislation, but we are still waiting for the clarification that is so clearly needed."
In some parts of the UK, the number of drivers prosecuted for using the phones while driving has shot up in recent months. Sarssam comments: "Clearly the fact that prosecutions are on the increase shows that people are not getting the message. It is still a frequent sight to see drivers using their phones on the road. The message needs to be made clear and drivers should be more concerned about causing an accident than incurring a £30 fine."

Datatool In Crime Busting Initiative

Datatool has assisted Northumbria Police in a new initiative to combat scooter thefts in the North Tyneside area. Scooter owners were invited to attend a Tagging Day to have a specially adapted Datatool tagging kit installed free of charge.
The kits, based on Datatool's market leading Gold Kit, were specially adapted for the initiative, and Datatool provided Northumbria Police with a free scanner.
Electronic ID tagging is one of the most effective deterrents to motorcycle parts theft. Datatool's Gold Kit invisibly ID's the motorcycle with unique codes using transponder tags that are hidden in secure locations around the bike. The codes are held on Datatool's dedicated database and enable the police to quickly identify the bike or its parts if they are stolen.
At the Tagging Day, held on Saturday 26th August, North Tyneside's scooter owners were also given free crime prevention advice from Northumbria Police.
PC Phil McConville of the Wallsend Community Police Team, who organised the event, commented: "We have been working hard within the community to reduce crime in the area, and this tagging day was an attempt to focus on a specific group of motorcycle users to try to bring crime down even further. The event was a great success, and we are confident that Datatool's tagging kits will make a great contribution to our efforts."

Theft Thwarted By Datatool Text-Alert

The attempted theft of a treasured Kawasaki Ninja was thwarted last week by a text message sent via Text-Alert from Datatool, the UK's leading supplier of innovative electronic motorcycle products.
Andrew Aldridge, a pub landlord and father of four from Rubery in the West Midlands, bought his Kawasaki with the Datatool Text-Alert fitted as he particularly wanted the extra security. Andy has no alternative but to park his motorbike behind his house out of earshot of the alarm, so the Text-Alert gives him extra peace of mind.
On Monday evening he was relaxing watching MTV after having secured the motorbike in its usual location, when he received a text message saying that the motion sensor had detected movement. This message was immediately followed by another telling him that the alarm had been activated, although he could hear nothing.
He immediately went to investigate and discovered a group of youths trying to steal his bike. On seeing Andrew they immediately ran off, leaving the bike behind.
Andrew Aldridge told us: "I am certain that without Datatool's Text-Alert my bike would have been stolen as there was no way I could have heard the alarm going off. It's good to know that if anyone goes near the bike again Text-Alert will immediately tell me!"

The S4 range comprises the S4 - C1 (Super Category 1 alarm) and the S4 - C4 (designed for bikes less than 125cc) which have both an alarm and immobiliser that can be set independently. The S4 - C2 is a Thatcham 2-1 upgrade for motorcycles that come with a category 2 immobiliser as standard.
Datatool claims that the S4 is the smallest and smartest alarm system on the market. The waterproof key fob is smaller and smarter too, with universal key conversions included, allowing users to combine the motorcycles ignition key/transponder into the Datatool remote control for added convenience.

21st Century CCTV Beats False Insurance Claim

21st Century CCTV system has given Arriva the evidence to combat a false insurance claim made against the company. The CCTV images saved Arriva just under £5,000 in claims, which almost equates to the cost of installing CCTV on two buses.
The claim against Arriva was by a taxi driver with a history of making personal injury claims. He alleged that the Arriva bus had collided with him while his vehicle was stationary. He produced two eye witnesses – one a pedestrian and the other who claimed to have been driving by in the opposite direction just as the incident occurred.
The Arriva driver claimed that it was in fact the taxi that had collided with the bus while trying to overtake. Two elderly women who were on the bus at the time were the only other witnesses, who later withdrew their evidence due to poor health.
The Claimant's Solicitors were invited to view the CCTV footage taken by 21st Century, but the offer was declined and the Claimant insisted that the case proceeded to trial.
An Arriva CCTV Controller attended Court where the Claimant's Counsel indicated that he had not yet viewed the CCTV footage. It was shown to him and the Claimant's representatives then proposed a form of compromise. In light of the excellent CCTV footage which clearly showed that the collision was entirely the fault of the Taxi Driver, Arriva refused to compromise and the Claimant then elected to discontinue his claim before the start of the trial.
The claim was discontinued with a costs order in Arriva's favour.

Epidemic Increase In Portable Navigation Replacement Causing Confusion

Scotland Yard released figures just before Christmas stating that 500 are being stolen every month* and thefts of portable navigation systems now account for 10% of all thefts from cars.

Toad links with UK's first 100% Online Insurer

Toad UK is to provide vehicle security and in car entertainment system replacement services to customers of swiftcover.com, the new on-line insurance provider that launched this month. The arrangement has been set up through an agreement with innovative new insurance solutions provider SIMS.
SIMS Claims Services Limited beat off more established companies to serve all of the claims needs for swiftcover.com, the first genuinely 100% on-line insurer, where customers can do everything online including renewing a policy, changing the insured car and making and tracking their claims. Toad will provide replacement audio products to policy-holders making a claim on swiftcover.com's motor insurance policies.
Simon Goodwin, Toad's Director of Sales for Insurance and Fleet services, commented: "We are delighted to be involved in this exciting new venture. More than half of the UK's households are now on-line, and it makes sense to offer these services in this way. Once customers make a claim, in keeping with the streamlined online operation of swiftcover.com, our team will be electronically notified by SIMS with all details. Toad will then source the correct replacement product, contact the policyholder and arrange installation at their location of choice by a Toad engineer."
Toad is the first alternative for vehicle security helpline

Toad UK Limited has set up a dedicated vehicle security helpline for policyholders of First Alternative, the non-standard car insurer set up by Peter Wood and HBOS.
First Alternative commissioned the telephone helpline in response to customer demand and Toad was selected as the provider of choice because of the company's reputation and expertise in vehicle security and direct customer care.
Simon Goodwin, Toad's Director of Sales for Insurance and Fleet services, commented: "First Alternative speciali ses in insuring private motorists with higher performance, higher value or higher risk cars. Its customers often have specific requirements regarding vehicle security and require specialised advice. We provide that advice, and because we have our own team of mobile engineers we can arrange for any security systems to be fitted as well, all in the one call."
First Alternative's customers will contact the Toad security helpline via a dedicated telephone number and Toad's vehicle security experts will discuss, advise and arrange to supply and fit Thatcham-rated security systems in compliance with the vehicle value and risk criteria of the insurer.
System installation will be carried out by Toad's UK-wide network of mobile installation engineers, and Toad will provide First Alternative with regular and comprehensive management reporting of all the systems installed through the scheme.
Security products supplied through Toad range from alarms and immobilisers through to Category Q and Category 5 rated stolen vehicle recovery systems, which utilise the latest telematics technologies.
Simon Goodwin concludes: "This extra service for First Alternative customers provides them with sound advice and expert installation of security to keep their vehicles safe and secure."
Toad reports record growth in mobile phone car kit installations

Toad Limited, the UK's leading installer of mobile phone car kits, has seen demand for installations increase month on month since the service was introduced in 2003. The company has just reached its target of 50,000 installations and expects demand to rise even further over the coming months.
The demand for Toad's hands-free kit installation services rose significantly in December 2003 with the introduction of legislation making the use of hand-held mobile phones in cars illegal. The second phase of this legislation is expected later this year, and Toad expects demand to jump still further.
Andrew Sarssam, Director of Sales commented: "We had originally set ourselves an ambitious target of 50,000 car kit installations by July 2005, and I am delighted we reached our goal. Our service has gone from strength to strength, with clients including top airtime providers and mobile phone manufacturers."
Sarssam believes that they key to Toad's success is in the use of dedicated engineers. He explains: "Toad's approach to the market is very different from competitors, because we employ our engineers rather than using subcontractors. This way we retain control over quality standards and this is fundamental to delivering high levels of customer service."
Sarssam believes that the market will continue to grow during 2005: "Whilst many responsible companies and individuals purchased car kits when Phase 1 legislation was announced, there remains a vast number of phone users relying on headsets and non-compliant plug and play equipment. Clearly, there is still some confusion as to what is and isn't legal."
Sarssam continues: "When Phase 2 is announced later this year, introducing penalty points and heavier fines, we expect public awareness to be heightened and for this to prompt another surge in demand for installations. This, coupled with continuing demand for re-installations as people change their cars or upgrade their hand-sets, should see us reach our next milestone of 100,000 installations."

Toad chosen by alternative networks to provide advice and installation service for hands-free mobile phone kits

Toad (UK) Limited ("Toad"), one of the UK's largest installer of hands-free mobile phone kits, has been selected by Alternative Networks plc to provide a mobile phone kit advisory, supply and installation service to customers.
Alternative Networks is an independent business communication service provider of fixed and mobile telecomms services and offers the full range of fixed line, mobile, internet and data services.
Toad will provide an advice service to Alternative Networks customers on the most suitable in-car kit for their needs, and the nationwide team of Toad engineers will perform the installation service.
